What makes The Carpet Project different?
We're not a marketplace with thousands of options. We're a curated brand — born from a family with over 20 years in Mirzapur's carpet industry. Instead of creating hundreds of designs, we focus on a few. Instead of mass production, we focus on intention.
Every carpet we offer is handcrafted by skilled artisans, made with premium materials, and designed to be lived on — not just looked at. We believe carpets should carry meaning, not just fill space.
Where are your carpets made?
All our carpets are handcrafted in Mirzapur, Uttar Pradesh, India — a city that produces 80% of all carpets sold in India and a significant share of global exports. This isn't just where we source from; it's where our family has been in the carpet business for generations.
We work directly with local artisans and weavers, ensuring fair practices and preserving traditional techniques that have been passed down for decades.
What materials do you use?
We primarily work with premium wool — known for its natural softness, durability, and ability to age beautifully over time. Wool carpets are naturally stain-resistant, regulate temperature, and get softer with use.
Some of our pieces also incorporate cotton, silk, or blended fibers depending on the design. Every material is chosen with longevity and comfort in mind — these are carpets meant to last for years, not seasons.
Are your carpets handmade or machine-made?
All our carpets are handcrafted by skilled artisans. Depending on the design, they may be hand-tufted, hand-knotted, or hand-woven using traditional techniques.
This means each piece has subtle variations that make it unique — small differences in texture or pattern that you won't find in factory-produced carpets. We see these as marks of authenticity, not imperfections.
How long does shipping take?
Within India: Most orders ship within 5-7 business days and arrive within 7-14 days depending on your location. For metros and major cities, delivery is usually faster.
International: We ship worldwide. International orders typically take 2-4 weeks depending on the destination and customs processing.
Once your order ships, you'll receive tracking information via email so you can follow your carpet's journey home.
Do you offer free shipping?
Yes! We offer free shipping across India on all orders above ₹15,000.
For international orders, shipping costs are calculated at checkout based on your location and the size of your order. We work with reliable carriers to ensure your carpet arrives safely.
Do you ship internationally?
Absolutely. We ship worldwide — from Mirzapur to modern homes across the globe.
International shipping times and costs vary by destination. Customs duties and taxes, if applicable, are the responsibility of the customer and are not included in the shipping cost.

How do I choose the right size carpet?
Choosing the right size depends on your space and how you want the carpet to anchor your room:
Living Room: For a seating area, the carpet should be large enough for at least the front legs of your sofa and chairs to rest on it. A 6x9 or 8x10 feet carpet works well for most living rooms.
Bedroom: Place a carpet under the lower two-thirds of your bed, extending about 2 feet on either side. Or use smaller runners on each side.
Dining Room: The carpet should extend at least 24 inches beyond all sides of your table to accommodate chairs when pulled out.

Can I order a custom size?
Yes, we offer custom sizing for most of our designs. Since our carpets are handcrafted, we have flexibility in creating pieces that fit your specific space.
Custom orders typically take 6-10 weeks to complete, depending on the size and complexity of the design. Reach out to us with your requirements and we'll provide a quote and timeline.
How do I care for my carpet?
Our carpets are made to be lived on, and with basic care, they'll last for years:
Regular Maintenance: Vacuum regularly (without the beater bar for handmade carpets) to prevent dirt from settling into the fibers.
Rotate: Rotate your carpet every few months to ensure even wear, especially in high-traffic areas or sunny spots.
Spills: Blot spills immediately with a clean, dry cloth. Avoid rubbing, which can push the stain deeper. For stubborn stains, use a mild soap solution and blot gently.
Professional Cleaning: We recommend professional cleaning every 1-2 years to keep your carpet looking its best.
Is shedding normal for wool carpets?
Yes, some initial shedding is completely normal for handcrafted wool carpets — it's a sign of natural, quality fibers. This typically reduces significantly within the first few weeks to months of use.
Regular vacuuming (on a gentle setting) helps remove loose fibers. Over time, shedding will stop and your carpet will become even softer and more settled.
What is your return policy?
We want you to love your carpet. If it doesn't feel right in your space, we offer returns within 14 days of delivery for a full refund, provided the carpet is in its original condition — unused, unaltered, and with tags intact.
Custom orders and personalized pieces are non-returnable, as they're made specifically for you.

Can I exchange my carpet for a different design?
Yes, exchanges are possible within 14 days of delivery. If you'd like to swap your carpet for a different design or size, reach out to us and we'll guide you through the process.
Any price difference will be adjusted accordingly. Return shipping for exchanges within India is free on orders above ₹15,000.
What payment methods do you accept?
We accept all major payment methods:

Can I see the carpets in person before buying?
We understand the desire to see and feel a carpet before bringing it home. While we're primarily an online brand, we're happy to arrange viewings for customers in select cities.
We also offer detailed photos, videos, and close-up texture shots for every piece. And with our return policy, you can experience the carpet in your own space risk-free.
